Observation of the hair with the SEM
The photos obtained, or the SEM, show a smoothing effect after treatment with FRUITBIO compared with the placebo.
More generally:
1. For the natural untreated hair:
- The hairs were not in perfect condition; slightly raised scales could be seen as well as few breaks.
2. For the natural untreated permed hair:
- The hair had undergone intense stress; the condition of its surface was greatly altered. The scales were raised and not uniform, and they looked jagged, with numerous breaks and visible splits.
3. For the natural permed hair treated with placebo:
- Under low magnification (700 X) the scales could be seen to be very detached and jagged.
- At a higher magnification (3000 X), the scales were seen to be very raised and jagged. There was little difference in appearance from that of the untreated permed hair. Placebo treatment did not improve the condition of the hair surface after the perm even though 15 shampoos were performed between the perm and the observation.
- At very high magnification, loss of substance could also be seen, i.e. the impressions of scales which had been lost due to the perm.
4. For natural permed hair treated with FRUITBIO:
- At low and high magnification (700 X, 3000 X) smoother scales could be seen than those for permed hair with placebo treatment, and there was generally a more uniform appearance. Little debris was observed on the body of the hair, which could be classed as "beautiful". The scales were still jagged but the distribution of the scales was uniform.
- This smoothing effect probably greatly improves combing and in the long term decreases hair breakage as the resistance to brushing and combing is reduced.
- The method used is innovative because a hair-smoothing index can be obtained with one viewing. Treatment with FRUITBIO makes hair smoother by 43%.
