Carbon Emissions Insights Portal FAQ
We are delighted to introduce Croda Beauty’s Carbon Emissions Insights Portal, your new hub for information and data relating to our product carbon footprints.
Your portal provides transparency around Croda Beauty’s product carbon data. With 24/7 access to information intended to help you make more sustainable choices when selecting ingredients for your formulations, it also offers insight into Croda Beauty’s robust carbon reduction strategies as we work towards our 2050 goal of Net Zero.
Within the portal, you can:
- View the product carbon footprints (PCFs) of the products you purchase
- Generate carbon footprint forecasts for your future product purchases, incorporating changes to your volume requirements and Croda Beauty’s own carbon reduction forecasts
- Access product glidepaths demonstrating the predicted impact of our carbon reduction strategies on each of our individual product carbon footprints

Croda Beauty’s Carbon Emissions Insights Portal is hosted by Catalyst, who share our commitment to cybersecurity and data protection, ensuring compliance with global data protection and privacy laws. Catalyst is Cyber Essentials Plus certified and meets the ISO 27001 standards. Additionally, Catalyst has successfully completed SOC 1, SOC 2, and SOC 3 assessments, which evaluate the design and effectiveness of internal controls related to security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy.
Customer data is integrated into the Catalyst portal from our secure data management system, Qlik. Using Qlik's Section Access security functionality, we ensure that each user of the portal will only have access to the data appropriate to them.
There is not currently an export mechanism for downloading data from the platform. As we further develop the portal, we hope that this is something that we can introduce in future.
Only data for products you have purchased can be accessed within your portal. For information relating to additional products, please contact your account manager.
Croda is working to align our methodology for calculating Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) with the guidelines outlined by Together for Sustainability (TfS) to ensure a consistent approach. Our methodology has been critically reviewed and approved by a third party (Ricardo).
Croda calculates PCFs by evaluating the Scope 1, 2 and 3 upstream greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the production of 1 kilogram of product. The PCF is the sum of all of these GHG emissions, expressed as CO2 equivalents related to a product, from the extraction of the raw materials to the gate of the reporting company including transportation (Cradle-to-Gate). Croda’s calculation methods are aligning with the guidelines produced by Together for Sustainability.
Our PCFs require two types of data: activity data and emissions data. We use 100% primary data for activity data and a hybrid of data for the emissions data.
Our hybrid data collection uses a combination of supplier-provided data (where available), LCA data, and secondary data to fill any gaps. In some unique cases we have had to use some average data and a very limited amount of spend based data.
We are, however, moving towards supplier specific data to further improve quality. This involves collecting product-level cradle to-gate GHG inventory data from suppliers. As we progress and increase our levels of accuracy, the level of complexity also grows.
Due to these ongoing improvements to data quality, but also as we implement positive carbon reduction changes at site and in the composition of our products, it should be noted that our PCF figures are not stagnant and fixed; instead, they are dynamic and may change.
We are currently in the process of building biogenic carbon information into our Product Carbon Footprint statements. At this time, we have biogenic literature available for our ECO range, but this will soon be expanded across the entire Croda Beauty portfolio.
In addition to this, some sites have already made significant progress towards their targets since the baseline year of 2018, and therefore less decarbonisation is expected over the coming years.
