Lemongrass is native to Sri Lanka and South India and is now widely cultivated in the tropical areas of America and Asia.
Known since antiquity as an aromatic plant, citronella is traditionally used to reduce fever, treat intestinal parasites, digestive problems, and irregular periods. In China, it is used to relieve rheumatic pain. In India, the essential oil and infusion of lemongrass leaf is used to remedy certain infectious diseases and gastrointestinal disorders, such as diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach cramps. In Brazil, it is known to calm nervous conditions and fevers.
The essential oil is commonly used to perfume cleaning products, air fresheners, washing powder, etc.
