Guava is originating from Central America and the West Indies.
Guava, known as the poor man's apple of the tropics, has a long history of traditional use, much of which is being validated by scientific research. The natives decoct the leaves or bark of guava as a cure for sore throats. A decoction of the bark and/or leaves is used topically for wounds, skin ulcers and skin sores. Flowers are also mashed and applied to painful eye conditions such as sun strain, conjunctivitis, or eye injuries.
With a strong musky smell, the guava is a yellowish, ovoid or pear-shaped berry with a juicy yellow, pink or reddish pulp and contains several seeds. The guava tree symbolises strength and vitality.
