Cosme-Phytami™ Marshmallow

Add to favourites
Native of the British Isles and the temperate regions of India, marshmallow is now distributed throughout Europe and can be found in parts of the Americas. Marshmallow has a long-standing reputation, and was used by the Greeks to treat ulcers, abscesses, and insect bites. The fresh flowers, crushed or infused, were applied to inflamed wounds. As for the leaves, their decoction was prescribed against cystitis and inflammation of the urinary tract. Mentioned in the Capitulary of Villis at the beginning of the 9th century, marshmallow has always been part of monastic gardens. It was around the 10th century that it spread to farmers' vegetable gardens. At that time, marshmallow root was used in soups and its leaves were eaten cooked like spinach. Marshmallow root was also used to make rattles that were sold in pharmacies. The substance contained in this soft root, mixed with the saliva of teething children, released natural analgesics, and calmed the pain. Marshmallow is also a honey plant and an ornamental plant. Marshmallow is a quintessential symbol of sweetness, referring confectionery.
