Cosme-Phytami™ Mango

Add to favourites
Native to northeast India, the mango tree is found in all tropical and subtropical regions. This very colourful fruit is commonly named “peach of the tropics”. It is also called 'The King of Asiatic fruits'. It is the most popular fruit of the tropics after the banana. It is regarded as a valuable item of diet and a household remedy. Indeed, all parts of the plant are used, flower, bark and kernel as an astringent, resinous gum as healing. In India, the ripe fruits are laxative and diuretic and are recommended against gastrointestinal and biliary disorders. The sap of the green fruits is applied to bee and scorpion bites. The young leaves, applied locally as a plaster, are a remedy for headaches and various skin ailments. In decoction, they cure angina, whooping cough, and toothache. The leaves are still used as a fumigation against asthma. In Africa, the roots, rich in tannins, are used against diarrhea and stomach aches. The bark, reputed to be anti-inflammatory, is used to treat mouth ulcers, gingivitis, and rheumatism. In Southeast Asia, the root is considered a febrifuge. Among the Creoles, mango bark is an excellent emetic. The oleoresin that the trunk exudes is sudorific, anti-syphilitic and effective against mouth ulcers. The mango tree symbolizes love, peace, and wisdom.
