Phytexcell™ Chestnut

Add to favourites
Often considered as immortal, chestnut tree has an exceptionally long life span which can reach 1000 years. The chestnut, a nutritious and energy-giving nutrient, has been used as the basic food for numerous Mediterranean peoples. Traditional Pharmacopoeia used the bark and leaves for their astringent cough-control and fever reducing properties. In the 12th century, the chestnut tree was already known for its circulatory properties. The chestnut leaf is mentioned in the German Commission Monograph to be used against heavy legs and problems with veins. Chestnut leaves have tonic and astringent properties due to their tannins and flavonoids content. One of the actives of chestnut bark and leaves is ursolic acid: this anti-inflammatory active molecule is effective against photo-ageing of the skin. It is said to improve the elasticity of the skin.
